New York, NY – The Postpoetic Machine, an experimental and immersive show by Venezuelan artist Maria Fernanda (Mafe) Izaguirre, will be presented at Theaterlab this fall from October 30 to November 13, 2024. This series of cybernetic explorations of human-machine communication invites visitors to experience an interactive hybrid landscape that challenges the boundaries of conventional language.
This production is made possible through the generous Support for Artists Grant awarded to Mafe Izaguirre by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Sponsored by Theaterlab, the grant made this off-Broadway production series in 2024 possible, showcasing Izaguirre’s experimental explorations in cybernetic art. The grant is part of New York State’s ongoing investment in arts and culture, with NYSCA having awarded over $80 million since Spring 2023 to more than 1,500 artists and organizations across the state.
Governor Kathy Hochul has emphasized the importance of the arts in New York, stating, “Research confirms what we’ve always known here in New York: arts and culture are a powerhouse, with a staggering return on investment for our economy and our communities.” NYSCA Chair Katherine Nicholls added, “On behalf of Council and staff, congratulations to Maria F. Izaguirre and thank you for your perseverance, your creativity, and your tireless service to New York State.”
The Postpoetic Machine will provide an opportunity to explore technology from a posthuman perspective. Guest artists Enrique Enriquez, Yoko Murakami, and Peter Sciscioli will contribute their unique approaches to this experimental journey, making this an unmissable event for art enthusiasts, technologists, and anyone interested in the residual areas of human-machine interaction.

About the Artists
Maria Fernanda (Mafe) Izaguirre (Caracas, 1978) is a New York-based Venezuelan artist specializing in cybernetics. Her work inquires how humans and technology can cooperate and how this cooperation, as Hybrid Spiritual Systems, amplifies consciousness. Izaguirre’s evocative propositions offer new perspectives on the human condition. She challenges the traditional view of humans as separate and superior from other species and systems. She believes that the humans of our time are hybrid entities, interconnected with multiple beings, agents, and systems whose identities are shaped by their interactions and exchanges. Enrique Enriquez was born in Caracas and has lived in New York for the past 25 years, where he talks to birds and explores the magic of language and the poetics of divination. Read More
Yoko Murakami (she/her) is a Tokyo-born and New York City-based artist. Yoko creates movement-based work in forms of site-specific installations and experimental film. She enjoys creating works for spaces that are not traditionally designed for performance and is interested in finding new ways to activate and question the way we interact with our environments. She has presented her creations in spaces like Mabou Mines (New York, NY), Ace Hotel (New York, NY), Triskelion Arts (Brooklyn, NY), TheaterLab (New York, NY), Da Da Da Gallery (Seattle, WA), Eshk Salon / Room Salon (Brooklyn, NY), and Aileyan Accessories (Brooklyn, NY). Her new venture into experimental film has led to her works being selected and screened in festivals in Seoul, Moscow, Naples, Belfort, Cyprus, Mexico City, and Lincoln Center in NYC, just in 2022.
Peter Sciscioli is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary performer, creator, educator, and producer specializing in dance, music, theater, and film. He has performed and taught nationally and internationally since 1997 in countries from Mexico to Bulgaria and has worked extensively with Meredith Monk, Jane Comfort, Daria Fain, and has been in work by Jonathan Bepler/Matthew Barney, Ping Chong, Philip Glass, and Mary Zimmerman, at venues such as BAM, Carnegie Hall, and La Mama ETC. Peter began leading his workshops in Voice as Movement in 2009 and co-initiated The Sounding Body series at Movement Research in New York in 2017. In 2012 he founded the International Interdisciplinary Artists Consortium, a network of artists and producers working across disciplines in cultures. Peter continues his research at home and abroad.

Nueva York, NY – The Postpoetic Machine (La Máquina Postpoética), un espectáculo experimental e inmersivo de la artista venezolana Maria Fernanda (Mafe) Izaguirre, se presentará en TheaterLab este otoño, del 30 de octubre al 13 de noviembre de 2024. Esta producción es posible gracias al generoso apoyo del programa Support for Artists Grant (Beca de Apoyo a Artistas) otorgado a Mafe Izaguirre por el New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Patrocinado por TheaterLab, la beca ha hecho posible esta serie de producciones off-Broadway en 2024, mostrando las exploraciones experimentales de Izaguirre en el arte cibernético. Sobre los Artistas
Maria Fernanda (Mafe) Izaguirre (Caracas, 1978) es una artista venezolana radicada en Nueva York, especializada en cibernética. Su trabajo investiga cómo los humanos y la tecnología pueden cooperar y cómo esta cooperación, como Sistemas Espirituales Híbridos, amplifica la conciencia. Las propuestas reflexivas de Izaguirre ofrecen nuevas perspectivas sobre la condición humana. Ella desafía la visión tradicional de los humanos como seres separados y superiores a otras especies y sistemas. Izaguirre cree que los humanos de nuestra época son entidades híbridas, interconectadas con múltiples seres, agentes y sistemas cuyas identidades son moldeadas por sus interacciones e intercambios. Su trabajo nos recuerda que somos un organismo universal en constante evolución, entrelazado y vibratorio.
Enrique Enriquez nació en Caracas y ha vivido en Nueva York durante los últimos 25 años, donde conversa con los pájaros y explora la magia del lenguaje y la poética de la adivinación.
Yoko Murakami (ella) es una artista nacida en Tokio y radicada en la ciudad de Nueva York. Yoko crea obras basadas en el movimiento en forma de instalaciones específicas para cada sitio y cine experimental. Disfruta creando obras para espacios que no están diseñados tradicionalmente para la performance y está interesada en encontrar nuevas formas de activar y cuestionar cómo interactuamos con nuestro entorno. Ha presentado sus creaciones en lugares como Mabou Mines (Nueva York, NY), Ace Hotel (Nueva York, NY), Triskelion Arts (Brooklyn, NY), TheaterLab (Nueva York, NY), Da Da Da Gallery (Seattle, WA), Eshk Salon / Room Salon (Brooklyn, NY), y Aileyan Accessories (Brooklyn, NY). Su nueva incursión en el cine experimental ha llevado a que sus obras sean seleccionadas y proyectadas en festivales en Seúl, Moscú, Nápoles, Belfort, Chipre, Ciudad de México y Lincoln Center en Nueva York, solo en 2022.
Peter Sciscioli es un intérprete, creador, educador y productor interdisciplinario con sede en Brooklyn, especializado en danza, música, teatro y cine. Ha actuado y enseñado a nivel nacional e internacional desde 1997 en países desde México hasta Bulgaria y ha trabajado extensamente con Meredith Monk, Jane Comfort, Daria Fain, y ha participado en obras de Jonathan Bepler/Matthew Barney, Ping Chong, Philip Glass y Mary Zimmerman, en lugares como BAM, Carnegie Hall y La Mama ETC. Peter comenzó a liderar sus talleres de “La Voz como Movimiento” en 2009 y co-inició la serie “The Sounding Body” en Movement Research en Nueva York en 2017. En 2012 fundó el International Interdisciplinary Artists Consortium, una red de artistas y productores que trabajan en disciplinas y culturas. Peter continúa su investigación tanto en su país como en el extranjero.
