Experimental Typography Workshop

The Experimental Typography Workshop prepared by Prof. Luis Giraldo aims to challenge the expertise of designers, artists, and image professionals, expanding their skills in composition. Through innovative exercises, the participants explore new forms of meaning based on the syntactic aspects of the letter.

Luis, an outstanding Venezuelan master typographer and founding member of PROdiseño, is one of the most prominent professionals in the field of letter design. His work’s legacy marks an essential milestone in the Latin American editorial design history, including scientific and art books, institutional magazines, economic reports, catalogs, brochures, posters, and maps.

The activity was focused on studying the details of the intrinsic and extrinsic compositional characteristics of the typographic sign, proposing complex contexts of visual dialogue.

The workshop consisted of two levels: 1. The study of the sign as an entity about the format; and 2. The study of the visual dialogue between the elements that orbit the letter and how proximity affects meaning. Both workshops were held in Caracas, accompanied by Prof. Eduardo López and Prof. Mafe Izaguirre.
